| Developmental Disabilities Planning Council |
Graduate Internships The NYS Developmental Disabilities Planning Council (DDPC) hires up to six graduate student interns for a minimum one year commitment (although two year internships are preferable). Some interns are assigned to our committee staff, others do program development and associated evaluation tasks, still others may be involved with our agency administration staff. Almost all of our interns are involved in interagency activities. Each internship is unique and highly dependent upon the agency's needs at the time; we also try to align students' work assignments along with their career goals. Our graduate interns work 20 hours a week when SUNYA is in session and up to 40 hours a week (dependent upon availability and agency need) during vacations and inter-sessions. Interns will earn an hourly wage. |

Qualifications include being currently enrolled in a graduate school program in psychology or counseling. Students work directly with a staff psychologist in running treatment groups, completing psychological assessments, working with a treatment team to develop treatment plans, and providing individual treatment when appropriate. It is not a paid externship. Students complete training and supervision required for practicum credits. |

Occupational Therapy Assistant and Occupational Therapy students who have completed their Level 1 internships from schools which have a contract with Mid-Hudson Forensic Psychiatric Center (MHFPC) may be considered for participation in the student program. Occupational Therapy Assistant level internships are 8-weeks in length and 3-months for Occupational Therapy students. The dates of the internship are established with the facility program supervisor and the college/university student coordinator prior to the interview. This is an unpaid internship. Students receive college credit upon the successful completion of their internship. |

A limited number of internships are available throughout the year. Responsibilities could include project management coordination, tracking program status, interacting with clients, developing surveys and/or case studies, and database management. Other positions may require communication of events by working on newsletters and press releases. Paid internships: Work up to 18.75 hours per week during the school year and 37.5 hours a week during the summer. College credit is available. |

Undergraduate/Graduate Internships Generally 120-150 hours during the Spring and Fall semesters; internships are generally not available during the Summer semester. Graduate students from Rockefeller College may receive compensation. Undergraduate students are not compensated. Copies of the application package are sent by Division Headquarters to the Troop Commander or Section Supervisor who arranges for a candidate interview. A background investigation is conducted on students recommended for internships. The successful applicant and State Police Supervisor will jointly develop the student's full schedule at the start of the internship. Undergraduates learn about the organization, staffing, mission, activities, programs and services of the Division of New York State Police. In addition, they may be given a research project that addresses an issue of concern to the host Troop, the student, or the school. A graduate internship is preceded by a 20-hour orientation to the New York State Police. |
