Overview  

Positions in local government fall under the jurisdiction of a Local Civil Service Commission or a Personnel Officer, who are responsible for administering the merit system in local government. Each county is responsible for administering civil service for the county and all civil divisions within the county including towns, villages, school districts, BOCES, special districts and cities (except in certain cities or suburban towns which have elected to administer civil service). If the city or town you are interested in is not listed below, you should contact the county civil service agency.
