Classification Standard
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CLASS SERIES
Park Supervisors are working supervisors responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the maintenance and operations activities of a State park or historic site. Incumbents perform a variety of administrative duties; plan, assign, and assist with the completion of work projects; develop and implement programs and services for the public; and may function as the first or second-in-command of a facility.
These positions are classified only in the Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
PARK SUPERVISOR 1: serves as second-in-command to a Park Manager or Historic Site Manager; or serves as a crew chief over at least five semiskilled and unskilled permanent, temporary, or seasonal workers.
PARK SUPERVISOR 2: serves as first-in-command of the smallest facilities or supervises the activities and staff of a major area, operation, or program within the largest facilities managed by a Park Manager or Historic Site Manager; and supervises program staff and skilled, semiskilled, and unskilled permanent, temporary, or seasonal workers.
RELATED CLASSES
Park Managers plan, direct, and coordinate the programs, operations, maintenance, security, and recreation activities of a State park.
Historic Site Managers manage, supervise, and maintain historic sites and collections; and develop and supervise programs and activities related to the sites to which they are assigned.
Maintenance Supervisors coordinate and supervise the activities of skilled trades employees and other workers engaged in a variety of mechanical, electrical, and building maintenance activities.
Park Workers perform a variety of relatively unskilled and semiskilled tasks related to the operation and maintenance of park facilities, structures, equipment, environs, and roadways.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
PARK SUPERVISOR 1 AND 2
Supervises permanent, temporary, and seasonal personnel.
Plans and schedules work projects.
Performs administrative duties in support of the facility.
Plans and provides programs and services to the public.
Provides technical direction to staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
PARK SUPERVISOR 1
Open Competitive: two years of experience in the construction, operation, and/or maintenance of a park or recreational facility, one year of which must have been at a supervisory level.
PARK SUPERVISOR 2
Open Competitive: four years of experience in the construction, operation, and/or maintenance of a park or recreational facility, one year of which must have been at a supervisory level.
Promotion: one year of service as a Park Supervisor 1.
