BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CLASS
The one position in this class oversees the quartermaster operations of the New York State Department of Correctional Services (DOCS). The incumbent acts as floor supervisor and central quartermaster for all uniformed services staff, and as such is responsible for all aspects of the warehousing process, including requisition, receipt, storage, inventory control, and record keeping; and distribution of uniforms and related accessories. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for supervising and training work release inmates.
This position is classified only at DOCS. Incumbents at DOCS assist in the total care and confinement of inmates sentenced to the custody of the Department. All incumbents perform various duties and functions in conjunction with the overall operation of a facility and/or location to which they are assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
SUPERVISOR CORRECTIONAL CLOTHING SERVICES: supervisory level; has responsibility for all aspects of the warehousing process, and for supervising and training Support Operations staff and work release inmates involved in the clothing services operation.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
Develop, maintain, and monitor inventory and record keeping systems.
Monitor warehouse work flow.
Oversee warehouse shipping and receiving.
Assist in the preparation of uniform budget requests and bid specifications.
Supervise and train Support Operations staff and work release inmates.
Recommend changes in inventory stock and style.
Oversee the purchasing and recording of inventory.
Maintain badge issuance and inventory system.
Oversee warehouse processes.
Supervise motor vehicle operators for inter-office and inter-agency deliveries.
Inventory and distribute office supplies to Central Office locations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Open Competitive: Four years experience involving responsibility for warehouse procedures, inventory control, and distribution of goods.
