Classification Standard

 

            DEPUTY CHIEF ENGINEER (RESEARCH) directs a comprehensive program of engineering research, including physical research, soils engineering, engineering geology and the related soil and materials testing laboratory and technical services:  supervises the analysis of engineering soil problems and subsurface conditions and reviews the subsequent recommendations; supervises the preparation of specifications for materials used in the Department of Transportation’s construction projects, the formulation and enforcement of product control procedures for materials, and the preparation of technical reports of the findings of research studies; serves as the Department’s representative to the engineering materials industry.  QUALIFICATIONS:  Professional engineer’s license and two years of permanent service in an engineering position allocated to Grade 31 or higher.
