BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CLASS SERIES

 

            Insurance Fund Business Managers oversee claims management, policyholder services, and administrative and operational activities in a district office.   These positions are found only at the New York State Insurance Fund. 

             

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

 

            Insurance Fund Business Manager: non-competitive; manages all operations of a district office.

 

RELATED CLASSES

 

            Employment Services Managers administer and oversee the operations of One-Stop Career Centers (centers), which serve individuals and employers seeking employment services such as career counseling, job search, recruitment, training, and other supportive services. Incumbents work collaboratively with other State agencies, local governments, and community-based and non-profit entities stationed at the centers in providing integrated employment and related services.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

Serve as the manager of a district office by overseeing all claims, medical, and policyholder services, as well as all fiscal, personnel, labor relations, administrative, and facility management activities associated with the district office.

 

 

Directly supervise managerial staff in the district offices.

 

Meet with representatives from the industry and policyholder groups, as well as Workers Compensation Board district office staff, to discuss issues of mutual concern and communicate the agencys policies and procedures. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Non-Competitive: ten years of experience in an insurance related setting, of which three or more years must have been at a management/supervisory level over one or more insurance program areas.  A bachelors degree in a related field may substitute for up to four years of the general experience.
