BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CLASS
Plant Utilities Helpers assist Plant Utilities Assistants and Plant Utilities Engineers by performing a variety of relatively unskilled tasks and routine manual labor on an assigned shift in a heating and/or air-conditioning plant or in the mechanical equipment rooms of buildings.
Plant Utilities Helper positions exist in several State agencies. Most are located in the Office of General Services, the State University, and the Department of Correctional Services.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
PLANT UTILITIES HELPERS: labor class; perform routine laboring activities in assisting semiskilled and skilled utility plant staff on an assigned shift. Incumbents typically function under specific instructions and are supervised by Plant Utilities Engineers or Plant Utilities Assistants.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
Under direct supervision of a Plant Utilities Assistant or a Plant Utilities Engineer, Plant Utilities Helpers perform the following:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
There are no education or experience requirements for this class. When required to operate motor vehicles, must possess a valid New York State drivers license for the type of vehicle operated.
