RAILROAD EQUIPMENT INSPECTOR, GRADE 15

Classification Standard

 

 

            RAILROAD EQUIPMENT INSPECTOR makes technical inspections of railroad transportation equipment in repair shops and on sidings to determine adherence to Public Service Commission standards for safe operation; checks air-brake equipment, heating boilers, turbines, safety devices, all rolling stock, and investigates the causes of accidents which may be due to defective equipment; makes internal and external examinations of large high-pressure locomotives, steam boilers, including fire box, water system pressure gauges, and accessory mechanical equipment, and of diesel engines, requiring extensive knowledge of construction, composition in installation, stresses and deterioration of all items of steam and diesel locomotives and accessory equipment.  QUALIFICATIONS:  Five years of experience in responsible charge of the erection, maintenance, or repair of locomotives in a locomotive erection or repair shop, or in inspection of such equipment for a public regulatory agency or three years of such experience and two years of responsible general experience in the erection, maintenance and repair of various kinds of railroad equipment.   A Bachelor's Degree with specialization in mechanical engineering may be substituted for four years of experience.
