Classification Standard

 

 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

 

The one position in this class is responsible for oversight of the waste recycling and composting operations which serve correctional facilities across the State.  The incumbent provides direction and training to security civilian staff assigned to recycling and/or composting projects; oversees the marketing of recycled materials to manufacturers and vendors; and coordinates the implementation of all textile, recycling, and re-issue initiatives as they arise. 

 

This position is only classified in the Department of Correctional Services (DOCS).  All incumbents at DOCS assist in the total care and confinement of inmates sentenced to the custody of DOCS and as such, assists in the overall operation of the facility to which he/she is assigned.

 

RELATED CLASSES

 

Coordinator Recycling Programs oversees the design, implementation, and administration of the Office of General Services Statewide Recycle, Reduce, and Reuse (3Rs) Program.

 

            Correctional Facility Program Administrator is responsible for ensuring the efficient functioning of all programs, including Vocational Education, Guidance and Counseling, and Alcohol and Substance Abuse Treatment programs within a correctional facility.

 

            Correctional Industries Resource Manager is the second line of supervision in overseeing DOCS agri-business and resource management programs.

           

            Production Control Supervisors within the Department of Corrections coordinate the production, storage, and shipment of all industrial items manufactured; monitor stocks of required materials and parts; and monitor and control the status of all production orders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Bachelors Degree in a science-related field and two years of experience in recycling metals, organics, paper and plastics, or in developing materials for eventual recycling, OR Associates Degree in a science-related field and four years of experience in recycling metals, organics, paper and plastics, or in developing materials for eventual recycling.

 

In addition, one year of experience as the manager of a large recycling program or as the manager of the major portion of a very large recycling program encompassing at least 30 sites.
