MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: On or before August 5, 2002, you must have had three years of experience coordinating a large transportation system, involving the movement of 30,000 passengers annually. This experience must include the coordinating, scheduling and routing of vehicles. In addition, you must have either a high school diploma, a high school equivalency diploma (issued by an appropriate State education authority) or a USAFI GED certificate of achievement, high school level. Diplomas issued through a home study course and not by an appropriate educational authority are not acceptable.

OR

60 college credits leading to a degree in criminal justice, psychology, sociology or transportation management (with a minimum of 12 credit hours in the major field, transcripts should be submitted with your application), or an associate's degree in one of these fields may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

OR

A bachelor's degree in criminal justice, psychology or transportation management may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience.

NOTES:

  1. Your degree and/or college credit must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the NYS Education Department as following acceptable educational practices. If your degree and/or college credit was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. You can write to the Examination Information Desk of the Department of Civil Service for a list of acceptable companies who provide this service.This information is also available here. You must pay the required evaluation fee.
  2. Appropriate part-time and volunteer experience, which can be verified, will be accepted on a prorated basis.
  3. New York State residence is not required.
  4. Fingerprints are sometimes required at the time of appointment. When they are required, the fee involved must be paid by the appointee.

SUBJECT OF EXAMINATION: There will be no written test. If you meet the Minimum Qualifications your training and experience will be evaluated against the general background of the position for appropriateness, extent, recency, and breadth. It is essential that you describe your training and experience as completely as possible on the OC-APP Open Competitive Examination Application form. Ambiguity, vagueness or omissions will not be decided in your favor. Do NOT send resumes. If you need more space, attach additional 8½ x 11" sheets, following the same format used on the application form. Additional unsolicited information will not be accepted after the last day for filing.

Your final score must be 70 or higher in order to pass. Rank on the eligible list will be determined after adding any wartime veterans credits to your final passing score.

THE POSITIONS: These positions exist with the New York State Department of Correctional Services in the Central Office in Albany.

DUTIES: The Correctional Services Transportation Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the transportation and movement of all inmates between Department facilities. Responsibilities include scheduling, dispatching and routing vehicles; record keeping, development of procedures and manuals; planning and implementation of changes; and serving as Department liaison for transportation.
