Appointees in the New York City area (Bronx, Kings, Nassau, New York, Queens, Richmond [Staten Island], Rockland, Suffolk and Westchester Counties) will receive an additional $1,200 annual location pay differential.

THE POSITIONS: This position exists in the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and is located in Albany. It is currently vacant.
DUTIES: As the Chief, Bureau of Air Research, you would be responsible for providing direction and oversight of the research and development of policies related to air pollution control to help formulate scientifically credible environmental policies. You would direct and provide overall management of air pollution research programs. You would also be responsible for identifying current and emerging problems confronting the State and the country related to air pollution and develop innovative solutions to these problems. You would communicate research findings to the national and international scientific community. As an expert and recognized authority in the atmospheric sciences field, you would serve on national and international committees. You would also provide consultation and peer review for ongoing and anticipated future research and development work in the field being sponsored by both the public and private sectors.
SUBJECT OF EXAMINATION: There will be no written test. The test will consist of an evaluation of your education and experience. Furnish complete information on your application form (OC-APP) to show that you meet the minimum qualifications. Do NOT send resumes. If you need more space, attach additional 8½ x 11" sheets, following the same format used on the application form. Additional unsolicited information will not be accepted after the last date for filing.
If you meet the Minimum Qualifications you will be sent a supplemental questionnaire to complete and return. The questionnaire will be used to evaluate the level, length and relevance of your education and experience against the general background/critical activities of the position. This questionnaire will be the only basis for rating your education and experience.
Your final score must be 70 or higher in order to pass. Rank on the eligible list will be determined after adding any wartime veterans credits to your final passing score.
