Appointees in the New York City area (Bronx, Kings, Nassau, New York, Queens, Richmond [Staten Island], Rockland, Suffolk and Westchester Counties) will receive an additional $1,200 annual location pay differential/downstate adjustment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: On or before June 30, 2004, you must have three years of specialized, full-time experience developing and managing comprehensive security programs specifically for a museum, historic site, historic collection, or artifact care program.
NOTES:
THE POSITIONS: This position exists in the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
DUTIES: The Museum Security Specialist will assess, plan, develop and coordinate all protection and security services for the agency's historic sites, collections, and artifacts; review technical developments in museum security, fire protection, standards, codes, and operations and techniques, and determine their applicability and practicality for the agency; conduct risk management analysis for all sites and collections and prepare reports of findings and recommendations, implement and maintain methods for risk identification and amelioration; evaluate physical plants, mechanical and electronic alarm, detection, and suppression systems, operations, and building and grounds security to identify potential problems and threats to collections, equipment, buildings, staff, and the public; develop and implement security plans, and assure that staff are maintaining security plans and systems; prepare technical plans and specifications and assist in coordinating capital projects that involve protection systems; write, review, and approve security manuals, emergency plans, procedures, and policies about security issues for staff; develop and conduct training programs about museum and collections security; maintain records for all missing objects and prepare and disseminate materials about missing objects to police, museums, dealers, and others; and work with Park Police and other law enforcement agencies to recover objects.
SUBJECT OF EXAMINATION: There will be no written test. The test will consist of an evaluation of your training and experience. Furnish complete information on your application form (OC-APP) to show that you meet the minimum qualifications. Do NOT send resumes. If you need more space, attach additional 8½ x 11” sheets, following the same format used on the application form. Additional unsolicited information will not be accepted after the last date for filing.
If you meet the Minimum Qualifications you will be sent a supplemental questionnaire to complete and return. The questionnaire will be used to evaluate your training and experience against the general background/critical activities of the position. This questionnaire will be the only basis for rating your training and experience.
Your final score must be 70 or higher in order to pass. Rank on the eligible list will be determined after adding any wartime veterans and Civil Service Law Section 85-a credits to your final passing score.
