Appointees who work in the five boroughs of New York City or in Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland, or Westchester Counties will receive an additional $1,264 annual downstate adjustment. Appointees who work in Dutchess, Orange, or Putnam Counties will receive an additional $632 annual Mid-Hudson adjustment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: On or before August 31, 2005, you must have had three years of satisfactory full-time experience, or its equivalent, in one or a combination of the following: (1) state-wide or district-wide curriculum development and/or (2) teaching remedial reading, remedial mathematics, or special education. In addition, you must meet the following requirements: For No. 28-054010 Mathematics: New York State permanent/professional teacher certification in mathematics; For No. 28-055010 Reading: New York State permanent/professional teacher certification in reading; For No. 28-056010 Special Education: New York State permanent/professional teacher certification in special education. THE POSITIONS: These positions exist in the New York State Department of Correctional Services in the Main Office in Albany and in the New York State Office of Children and Family Services in the Home Office in Rensselaer. The Mathematics position is in the Department of Correctional Services only. The Special Education and Reading positions exist in the Office of Children and Family Services only. DUTIES: Curriculum Content Coordinators function as content and program experts in their particular areas of certification (Mathematics, Reading, or Special Education). These positions are responsible for instructional program development, and implementation and monitoring of activities within a specific content area in which the program exists. These activities include expansion and improvement of course content, development of new teaching techniques, development and improvement of competency of teaching professionals, and development and revision of Agency policy directives as they apply to the program. These positions require approximately 50% travel. Candidates must either possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State or otherwise demonstrate their ability to meet the transportation needs of the job to be considered for appointment. SUBJECT OF EXAMINATION: There will be no written test. If you meet the Minimum Qualifications, your education and experience will be evaluated against the general background/critical activities of the position. This evaluation will concentrate on your experience in state-wide or district-wide curriculum development and/or teaching remedial mathematics, remedial reading, or special education. Please include the setting in which you gained this experience; e.g., juvenile justice program, adult correctional facility, elementary/middle school/high school setting, etc. Also, please include the teaching specialty and effective date of your permanent/professional NYS Teacher certification. It is essential that you describe your education and experience as completely as possible on the OC-APP Open Competitive Examination Application form. Ambiguity, vagueness or omissions will not be decided in your favor. Do NOT send resumes.
