Lola W. Brabham, Acting Commissioner
Lola W. Brabham is Acting Commissioner of the Department of Civil Service, the principal human resources provider for the Executive Branch of New York State Government, which serves approximately 150,000 employees. In this capacity, Commissioner Brabham oversees administration of the civil service system and the New York State Health Insurance Program. Commissioner Brabham was appointed to her current position by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo in 2015, and has more than 20 years of distinguished government experience.
Prior to leading the Department of Civil Service, Ms. Brabham served as Deputy Commissioner for Administration and Chief Financial Officer for the New York State Department of Labor. Previously, she served as Director of Human Services and Assistant Secretary for Health, Medicaid and Oversight in the Executive Chamber, serving under Governor David Paterson. Ms. Brabham has also held senior positions with the New York State Division of Budget. Commissioner Brabham's comprehensive and versatile public service career began when she served as Legislative Budget Analyst for the Assembly Ways and Means Committee and as Chief of Staff to State Assemblyman Nick Perry.
Ms. Brabham possesses a dual B.A. in Criminal Justice and Sociology from the State University of New York, and a Master's of Public Administration degree from Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy.
