Proposal Information

Description:

The NYS Office of General Services began implementation of Lean management within the agency as part of the statewide rollout. The methodology commonly employed is to build internal capacity within the organization by training designated agency employees to support deployment. These responsibilities are typically supplemental, or in addition, to the employee's organizationally assigned duties and responsibilities which has impeded efficient and effective deployment implementation.
The Organizational and Performance Improvement unit is tasked with the primary responsibility of coordinating and managing Lean projects across the organization, working in collaboration with its business unit partners as well as developing, implementing and evaluating professional development programming designed to build internal awareness and operational implementation of Lean management practices and principles within the agency's daily operations.
Reporting to the OGS Lean Deployment Manager, the Organizational and Performance Improvement Intern will assist in the development and implementation of the Office of General Services' enterprise Lean Management Initiative. Specific duties include, but will not be limited to:
* Collect pertinent data, through various means such as key performance indicators (KPIs), reports, documents, interviews, questionnaires, and on-site observations of the work processes;
* Prepare various reports to inform the Deployment Manager regarding project status, implementation progress, and obtain guidance on changes in scope and approach as may be warranted;
* Plan, develop, analyze, evaluate, and review project outcomes providing recommendations for continuous improvement;
* Prepare related analyses, i.e., cost-benefit analysis, systems alternatives analysis, or alternative problem resolution analyses, as appropriate;
* Develop findings and recommendations supported by necessary documentation and analytics for review by immediate supervisor, program managers, project sponsors, and the agency executives;
* Participate in Lean project kaizens;
* Prepare weekly status reports and updated metrics for ongoing Lean projects;
* Assist with changes in agency policies, work processes, and procedures to reflect future state conditions as an outcome of Lean projects; Update and maintain OGS Lean SharePoint and Searchlight site
* Conduct assigned management and organizational studies and surveys to develop recommendations for management and operational improvements;
* Design, develop and launch web-based resources and materials to support information exchange and professional development regarding Lean management principles/practices and ongoing agency Lean activity.
