Description:

Overview - The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS or Department) is one of the largest and most dynamic public safety agencies in the country. DOCCS is responsible for the custody of prison inmates and the supervision of parolees. The Department consists of 19,000 employees, 53,000 inmates, 36,000 parolees, and seven regional parole offices. The Office of Special Investigations (OSI) is the investigative arm of DOCCS and is responsible for investigating criminal activity and staff misconduct. The OSI is comprised of 150 investigators and divided into four specialized divisions; the Internal Affairs Division (IAD), the Sex Crimes Division (SCD), the Criminal Intelligence Division (CID) and the Narcotics Investigative Division (NID). These divisions work on the most relevant criminal justice issues of the day, and work closely with all federal, state and local law enforcement agencies as well as district attorneys' offices, the New York Attorney General's Office, the U.S. Attorneys Offices and various state and federal task forces.

Duties - The Intern's primary duty will be to assist the Office of Special Investigations (OSI) with the analysis of electronic and hard copy media related to illegal activities within New York State Correctional Facilities. Related criminal activity includes drug trafficking and gang violence but is not limited to those crimes. Interns will have the opportunity to assist with interviews, depositions, preparation of reports, tours of facilities and the myriad of issues that surface daily in the DOCCS system.
