Position Summary:
The New York State Office of Mental Health Suicide Prevention Office and the Suicide Prevention Center of New York (SPCNY) is seeking a student intern to coordinate and provide support on a project titled "Leveraging County Suicide Prevention Coalitions to Advance the New York State Suicide Prevention Plan."
County suicide prevention coalitions are the backbone of the state's public health approach to suicide prevention. SPCNY provides training and technical assistance to most counties across the state and provides coalitions with seed funding to carry out suicide prevention projects that align with New York State's Suicide Prevention Plan.
The intern will work closely with the SPCNY team to:
* Review and score all submitted applications with a team of reviewers
* Provide technical assistance to coalitions as they develop and hone their proposals
* Assist coalitions in aligning their projects with the state's goals and objectives
* Work with coalitions to design SMART objectives and develop an evaluation plan that will be able to assess the extent of the success of their projects at accomplishing their intended goals
* Assist SPCNY in other areas based on the student's interest and the needs of the organization such as school and youth initiatives, family engagement, college and university suicide prevention, and preparation of reports and/or articles
Qualifications:
* Graduate student in public health or a related field
* Good written and oral communication skills
* Good organizational and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work independently within a team environment
* Ability to take the initiative and a willingness to share new ideas
The position requires a maximum of 20 hours/week commitment for the Fall 2018 semester and pays $15 per hour. The position may be extended into the Spring 2019 semester.
