Proposal Information

Description:

The intern will provide advice on statewide environmental issues to Legislative staff, counsel and executive staff. Assist in advocating for the Department and state environmental positions at the State level. Assist in obtaining information and policy initiatives from other states that may be of interest to New York in order to make recommendations and suggestions for draft departmental legislative or administrative positions. Responsibilities include:
* Bill tracking
* Soliciting comments as appropriate from legislative coordinators
* Assisting in the development of environmental Governor's program bills
* Assisting in the development of DEC positions on legislation, including the drafting of memos to the Governor's office on bills which have passed both houses
* Conducting legal research on legislation
* Responding to inquiries from the legislature
* Developing testimony and Q&A for hearings
* Attend meetings with stakeholders

 

Skills:

Strong writing and interpersonal skills

Avility to manage multiple tasks

Must demonstrate a strong work ethic

Prior legislative experience a plus

Environmental laws & Regulations exp.
