Proposal Information

Description:

1. Horseshoe crab spawning survey
a. Work with Unit staff and partner agency to conduct night time survey - this includes measuring, tagging, and data collection of horseshoe crabs.
b. Assist partner agency, site coordinators, and volunteers as necessary.
2. Fisheries dependent sampling program.
a. Work with unit staff to collect biological data on lobster, horseshoe crab, blue crab, Jonah crab, and whelk during sea, port, and market sampling trips.
b. QA/QC data and enter data into Access database.
3. Atlantic Sturgeon salvage program
a. Work with Unit staff to collect biological data on, and recover, deceased sturgeon from beaches of the marine district.
4. Unit operations
a. Assist Unit supervisor and biologists with tasks in office.
5. Great South Bay beam trawl survey
a. Work with Unit staff to conduct field survey aboard the Unit research vessel.
b. Assist with general operations of the boat and trailering; trawl deployment and retrieval; and gear maintenance and upkeep.
c. Assist in handling, identifying, and measuring of all marine organisms collected in trawl.
d. Assist in environmental data collection.
6. Support and assist other programs in the Division of Marine Resources as needed.
