BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CLASS
Positions in this title assist in the collecting, sorting and identifying of insect specimens; analyze and tabulate data; and assist in research activities.
These positions are located at the Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
ENTOMOLOGICAL ASSISTANT: seasonal; assist scientists with research activities involving or related to insects.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
Assist in the collecting, sorting and identifying of insect specimens.
Assist in field investigations of disease outbreaks attributable to arthropod vectors.
· Collect, band, identify and draw blood from wild birds.
· Assist municipalities with local surveillance programs by identifying, processing and shipping specimens.
Analyze and tabulate data.
Assist in other research activities, as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Open Competitive: Two years (60 semester credit hours) of college coursework which must include twenty-four credit hours in a combination of courses in Entomology, Agronomy, Biology, Ecology, Biology, and Statistics, of which twelve credit hours must have been directly related to Entomology.
