BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CLASS
The Director Division Educational Testing leads and directs the implementation of the Board of Regents policies related to educational testing. This one-position class exists only in the State Education Department.
DIRECTOR DIVISION EDUCATIONAL TESTING: Carries primary responsibility for overseeing and coordinating the responsibilities of the Office of State Assessment, which include test development, test administration and test operations/contracts.
Coordinates the development and implementation of assessments that align with state learning standards and meet federal requirements.
Develops policy recommendations.
Oversees the management of process improvements in the preparation, production and distribution of statewide examinations.
Coordinates office operations, including budget, personnel, technology and the ongoing management of testing contracts to ensure assessments are aligned with the learning standards and are fair, valid and defensible.
Liaises with external stakeholders who review and advise the Education Department on new and alternative assessment mechanisms.
Oversees the production of publications to support the learning standards and testing mechanisms, including field guides and memos.
Prepares or oversees the preparation of relevant reports.
Promotion: one year permanent competitive service as Chief Bureau Elementary and Secondary Educational Testing or Chief Bureau Test Development.
Open Competitive: Masters and seven years of professional experience in education, which include experience in educational testing and assessment. Three years of this experience must have been in managing the development, administration, and validation of an educational testing and assessment program.
