BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CLASS
Positions in this class operate testing equipment and record results while administering specific medical tests to State employees or prospective employees as part of a comprehensive occupational health and medical evaluation program.
The positions are classified only at the Employee Health Service of the Department of Civil Service.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
MEDICAL TEST ASSISTANT: full performance level; under the general direction of a Senior Medical Test Assistant or higher level medical staff, the positions function as a part of a team in the administration of physical and medical examinations to employees and prospective employees of the State. The positions may be required to travel across the State to conduct medical tests.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
MEDICAL TEST ASSISTANT: assist doctors and nurses who provide physical examinations and occupational health services to State employees; conduct or assist in a variety of medical tests such as vision, pulmonary function, audiometry, EKG, phlebotomy and vital signs on examinees participating in physical examinations; draw blood from examinees; prepare and package blood and other specimens; operate, clean and calibrate medical test equipment; perform various clerical functions such as recording test results, data entry on computers, preparing and assembling medical charts, and billing State agencies and outside contractors for service rendered; and schedule appointments and prepare correspondence to clients, agency personnel officers, and consultants concerning appointment times, locations, procedures and policies, and evaluation results.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Open Competitive: one year of experience in a paramedical position in a healthcare setting such as a medical laboratory, clinic, hospital, physicians office, or veterinarians office.
