Classification Standard  






            Fire and Safety Representatives inspect facilities for compliance with fire safety codes, regulations, and other State and local requirements. They inspect buildings and equipment to detect fire hazards and enforce State and local regulations; review evacuation plans to determine the ability of facilities to respond to fire and other emergencies; and conduct training in safety awareness and regulatory requirements.


            These positions are classified primarily in the Office of Children and Family Services and the Office for People With Developmental Disabilities.





            FIRE & SAFETY REPRESENTATIVE: full performance level; independently perform field inspections of facilities for adherence to fire safety standards; may supervise lower level clerical, and health and safety staff.





            Fire Protection Specialists provide technical assistance and training on life safety code and fire prevention to law enforcement, code enforcement specialists, fire officers, dispatchers, hospital staff, emergency medical technicians, and health and safety officers in accordance with applicable State laws and regulations.  They may inspect structures and respond to emergencies.


            Safety and Health Inspectors perform inspections of selected public and private work sites, and places of public assembly to ensure conformance with occupational safety and health standards; identify unsafe conditions and work practices; provide training; and protect workers and the public. 







Open Competitive: three years of active service in a professional fire department or industrial fire brigade, and two years as the person primarily responsible for fire prevention, fire inspection, or fire training programs.
