Classification Standard

 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

 

          Positions in this series assist with executing the digital communications strategy for an agency in all digital platforms including web applications, intranets, document sharing tools, social media, document standards, and other multi-media platforms.  Incumbents post and update approved content on websites and social media in accordance with agency policy.

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

 

          PUBLIC INFORMATION ASSISTANT (DIGITAL CONTENT):  entry level; non-competitive; posts approved digital content on the agencys websites and social media sites; and edits web content under general direction from a Public Information Specialist 1 (Digital Content).  Positions may supervise clerical support staff. 

 

RELATED CLASSES

 

Public Information Specialists draft, edit and disseminate written materials; and develop content concerning the programs and activities of an agency for website, print and electronic publications, and digital and social media. They also respond to media inquiries regarding agencys initiatives, programs, and services.  Positions established as Public Information Specialists (Digital Content) are non-competitive positions responsible for planning and executing the digital media campaign for a State agency.

 

Graphic Designers conceptualize, design, and create graphics to communicate messages for educational, commercial, or promotional purposes in print and electronic media.  They consult with and advise clients, and develop design and layout, using various tools, to produce communications products that are effective and aesthetically pleasing. 

 

Multimedia Production Technicians develop and capture multimedia content for numerous distribution channels such as radio, television, internet, and discs.  Incumbents record multimedia content using video and still cameras in both studio and field environments, coordinate and set up production lighting and audio, and execute post-production projects including editing videos, outputting compositions to the web and physical media. 

         


 

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

 

·       Receive and post information to agency Facebook and Twitter accounts.

·       Edit web content using the content management systems.

·       Upload content to video and image social media accounts such as YouTube and Flickr.

·       Apply style guidelines to produce high-quality and accurate work in accordance with agency policies and strategies for digital communications.

·       Follow up on information technology service tickets to ensure issues are addressed in a timely manner.

 

COMMUNICATION

 

          Incumbents in this title series have frequent oral and written communications with first-level supervisors to obtain content for publication on an agencys website and social media platforms. Incumbents frequently produce written communication with members of the public and agency counterparts regarding upcoming agency events or programs.  Some of the information communicated may be technical in nature, and incumbents are frequently responsible for using plain language in correspondence. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Non-Competitive:  four years of experience* in public relations, social media, and digital communications. 

 

Substitution: Associates, bachelors or masters degree in Communications, English, Public Relations, Social Media, Digital Communications, or a similar degree substitutes for two, four, or five years.
