BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CLASS
This position oversees the Office of Communication Services at the Department of Environmental Conservation. This includes the oversight of the Conservationist Magazine, and agency public outreach activities, publications, and the agency website.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
DIRECTOR COMMUNICATION SERVICES: manager; directs all communication activities in office; approves statewide outreach initiatives.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
DIRECTOR COMMUNICATION SERVICES: directs the daily activities of the office to ensure the achievement of agency goals and objectives; provides guidance to subordinate managers and staff members in the office; formulates office strategic goals, priorities, and work plans; approves production and design of all outreach products and materials originated within agency divisions; reviews and approves content for Conservationist magazines and Conservationist for Kids; approves content for Department website and social media; proposes and develops agency policy for communications standards and strategies, and disseminates agency policies and guidelines within the scope of departmental policies and the directives of management; ensures coordination of legislatively mandated public meetings and hearings, and the communication of legislatively required public notices through the Departments website; works with division managers to establish communication strategies reflecting policies on outreach related to the agencys environmental programs and also ensures the fulfillment of regulatory and policy requirements for public participation; develops annual budget and spending plans; and oversees the hiring, training, evaluating, counseling, and disciplining of staff members in the office.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Promotion: one year of service as a Citizen Participation Specialist 4.
