BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

 

Audiovisual Production Specialists produce professional quality video presentations in studios and in the field. Incumbents prepare scripts and story lines, and operate video cameras and related equipment, such as lighting, sound, and editing equipment. Incumbents also operate, maintain and control the use of equipment in support of seminars, teleconferences, press conferences and other events.

 

These positions are classified in the competitive class at the Office of the State Comptroller and the Office of Mental Health. At the Division of State Police, these positions are classified in the non-competitive class. 

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

 

AUDIOVISUAL PRODUCTION SPECIALIST: produce and edit professional quality audiovisual projects in a studio setting or in the field using video production cameras and related equipment for the majority of work time; work is performed independently, with limited or no technical review. Positions at the Division of State Police are located within the Forensic Video/Multimedia Services Unit and perform video documentation and post production of criminal and civil events.

Multimedia Production Program Specialists design and produce educational, informational and promotional materials including publications, multimedia and video products to support the agencys mission.  Multimedia Production Program Specialists are responsible for a variety of projects depending upon the focus of the agencys program such as web design, multimedia, graphics, audio, digital media, and print production.

 

Multimedia Production Technicians develop and capture multimedia content for numerous distribution channels such as radio, television, internet and discs. They record multimedia content using video and still cameras in both studio and field environments; coordinate and set up production lighting and audio; and execute post-production projects including editing videos, outputting compositions to the web and physical media.

 

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

 

          AUDIOVISUAL PRODUCTION SPECIALIST: meets with requestors to determine and define production goals and requirements; plans production assignments based on requirements and available equipment; prepares a script, story board, and work plan in conjunction with program staff; arranges for and sets up location production, including setting up peripheral lighting and sound equipment; arranges for special equipment for staging and production requirements; produces presentations in studio; prepares graphics, photography, and other materials needed; operates video cameras and lighting and sound equipment to record productions and other events such as criminal and civil events, seminars, teleconferences, and press conferences; performs on-scene analog/digital multimedia extractions and analytical testing in the context of reverse production techniques; edits and mixes audio and visual recordings and related materials, such as animation, computer graphics, and digital video effects; coordinates and performs post production activities using linear and non-linear video processing systems; coordinates production with other units and staff; maintains equipment, supplies, and production facilities; maintains raw footage filing systems; coordinates and performs duplications, packing and distribution; may supervise staff assigned to production activities; and may perform still and motion picture photography.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Non-Competitive/Open-Competitive: four years of practical experience in the operation of a variety of audiovisual production equipment which must include video cameras, lighting, microphones, and non-linear video editing software; and responsibility for creating and maintaining various audiovisual digital files to produce multiple end products which must include broadcasts, web presentations, videos, and CD/DVD/Blu-Rays. A bachelors degree in video and/or film production may substitute for two years of the experience.
