Classification Standard

 

 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

 

          Lottery Research & Program Development Specialist designs and develops instant and on-line games for the New York State Lottery at the New York State Gaming Commission.

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

  

          LOTTERY RESEARCH & PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST:  one-position class; managerial level; under the general direction of the Lottery Sales Manager in the Division of Gaming, develops new Lottery games and redesigns existing games; supervises Graphic Designers.

 

RELATED CLASSES

 

          Director Lottery Games Operations directs statewide Lottery operations at the New York State Gaming Commission.

 

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

 

          Develop quantitative and qualitative research to determine consumer attitudes to current and proposed products and to gather usage data on Lottery products; identify market opportunities, industry norms, trends and market reactions to new products; develop new products and product enhancements based on the results of scientific research; develop specifications for new instant and online game proposals; organize and conduct test markets and test tracking for new marketing projects; research the business objectives of prospective key accounts and design and develop programs and software modifications to meet their individual needs; develop unique merchandising programs to achieve product differentiation in the marketplace; and perform the full range of supervisory duties of staff.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Open Competitive:  Bachelors degree in Marketing, Market Research, Statistics, Business Administration or Accounting, and five years experience* in analysis and application of complex data involving mathematical, statistical, forecasting, trending research with at least three years experience in the design and development of complex computer programs established for management concept testing, analysis and decision making.

 

*Substitution: A masters degree in the above fields substitutes for one year of experience; a doctorate in the above fields may substitute for two years of experience.
