Classification Standard

 

 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

 

Lottery Supervising Research Specialist conducts comprehensive statistical analysis of sales information related to video lottery terminals (VLTs). The position develops quantitative evaluation tools; illustrates sales performance patterns using regression analysis; analyzes demographic data relevant to gaming locations; evaluates appropriateness of VLT themes and marketing viability; forecasts the effective life cycle of games; reviews relevant game upgrades, and/or the elimination of games, and provides related recommendations; establishes models to assist in the development and measurement of promotions; and conducts on-site research and testing.

 

The positions are only classified at the New York State Gaming Commission.

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

  

Lottery Supervising Research Specialist: supervisory level: under the direction and supervision of the Lottery Video Product Manager, the incumbent will supervise one or more Program Research Specialists 2.

 

RELATED CLASSES

 

          Lottery Marketing Representatives assist with the sales, promotions, merchandising, and education efforts associated with new and existing lottery games and machines at retailers for the purpose of maximizing the sales of Lottery products within an assigned territory.

 

Lottery Marketing Specialists promote marketing and sales of lottery products within a given region in either corporate account business development or regional media promotions.

 

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
 
          Evaluate sales information and trends for each track by manufacturer, game parameter, promotional event, hour of operation, and seasonality; assist staff with sales information reports, product evaluation, and product change verification/tracking responsibilities; review new products to determine appropriate themes and marketability and make recommendations to the product development team as needed; receive and verify vendor-provided software is in agreement with requirements and coordinate installation to central system; evaluate product mix change orders and software, printer and bill validator upgrades; coordinate changes with the manufacturer, facility and Lottery personnel; work with central system provider to develop and distribute accurate and timely reports/databases/spreadsheets for Lottery and vendor end-users; and perform the full range of supervisory duties (e.g., performance evaluations and review/approve time and attendance). 

         

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Open Competitive: a bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, mathematics, or statistics; AND four years of experience in marketing research in the area of state-operated lotteries.

 

Promotion:  one year of service as a Program Research Specialist 2.
