BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

 

Supply Assistants perform routine manual and clerical activities. Incumbents pick up and deliver mail, packages and other supplies and materials; perform manual activities as directed; and may assist in such tasks as sorting of mail and messages, operating standard office and duplicating machines, unpacking boxes and stocking shelves.

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

 

Supply Assistants perform manual and routine supply and associated clerical work in support of an office services, stores or records storage operation.

 

RELATED CLASSES

 

            Office Assistants 1 perform entry-level clerical and office support work, including processing transactions and maintaining records in a variety of organizational settings.

 

            Office Assistants 1 (Stores/Mail) spend most of their work time performing activities related to mail receipt, mail distribution, storage, and stores keeping.  These activities are accomplished in accordance with applicable procedures, rules, regulations, and laws.

 

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

 

Under the supervision of higher level clerical employees:

 

·       Delivers incoming and picks up outgoing mail.

 

·       Unloads or assists others in unloading supplies, equipment, and/or furniture; and wraps and unwraps packages.  May use simple mechanical equipment such as hand trucks, pallet jacks, or fork lifts.

 

·       Assists in unpacking materials.

 

·       May move desks, office machines and other furniture either by hand or by operating simple mechanical equipment.

 

·       May assist in marking equipment or furniture with identifying numbers.

 

·       Stores articles on shelves, bins or on the floor according to specific instructions.

 

·       Sorts articles according to type, size or color.

 

·       As assigned, assists in such routine clerical activities as sorting mail and messages, operating office and duplicating machines and in opening and stamping incoming mail with date and agency stamps.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

There are no education or experience qualifications for this class.  Supply Assistants must be physically able to perform the duties assigned.
