BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

Library Aides inspect material being carried in and out of the library to prevent theft and perform other routine duties. Library Aides are classified only in the libraries of the State University.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

LIBRARY AIDE: labor jurisdictional classification; classified only to inspect materials, but may perform other simple activities, such as sorting books.

RELATED CLASSES

Library Clerks perform or supervise specialized clerical activities in a library and are responsible for clerical processing activities within one or more organizational units.

Clerks 1 process transactions, review and verify documents, compile information and data, and maintain records.

Librarians manage and plan library services, provide advisory and search services, and select, acquire, catalog, and classify material.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

LIBRARY AIDE: inspects materials being carried out of the library to prevent theft and loss of library holdings; checks library holdings being removed to ensure that they are appropriate for removal and properly signed out from the library; searches bags, briefcases, and parcels for concealed material; sorts returned materials for distribution; stacks books; and counts and records the number of people entering and leaving the library.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

There are no education or experience requirements for this class.
