BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

 

 

          The Director Bureau Forensics oversees forensic mental health services at the Office of Mental Health (OMH). The incumbent monitors the delivery of statewide forensic mental health services; sets policies and standards consistent with laws, rules, and regulations; provides guidance to State and local criminal justice entities; and assesses the adequacy and effectiveness of the forensic mental health system.

 

This position is in the Division of Forensic Services at OMH.

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

         

DIRECTOR BUREAU FORENSICS: one position class; oversees all forensic mental health services provided by OMH.

 

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

Oversees forensic mental health programs provided in forensic psychiatric centers, regional forensic units, satellite units, residential programs within prison facilities, and in the community.

 

Ensures that forensic mental health programs comply with State and federal laws, rules, and regulations.

 

Oversees the care of individuals committed to the custody of the Commissioner of OMH from all courts in the State.

 

Assesses the adequacy of the States forensic mental health service system, and proposes new policies, procedures, and/or programs to address operational needs.

 

Coordinates forensic mental health programs with State and local judicial, correctional, and mental health systems; and provides forensic program guidance to State and local entities.

 

Supervises Forensic Services Program Administrators and other staff assigned to psychiatric center, regional, and Central Office forensic mental health programs.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Open Competitive: bachelors degree and eight years of professional administrative experience in a mental health setting, at least three years of which was in a forensic setting established for the custodial care and treatment of mental health patients involved with the criminal justice system. Three years of the experience must have been at a managerial level.
