HOSPITAL OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY AIDE, GRADE 9

Classification Standard
Hospital Occupational Therapy Aides perform a variety of physical and clerical tasks to aid Occupational Therapists and/or Occupational Therapy Assistants in the treatment of patients in an ambulatory setting. Positions with this title are located in the hospitals operated by the State University of New York.
Non-competitive; performs all duties under the direction and supervision of a licensed and currently registered Occupational Therapist.
־ Prepares materials and assembles equipment for each patients therapy.
־ Assists in treatment of the patient as requested by the Occupational Therapist, including the setup of exercise media and preparation and completion of patient projects.
־ Assists in setting up the patients with modalities such as hot packs, cold packs and fluidotherapy.
־ Reports observed patient performance and progress to the therapist.
־ Assists in devising, constructing and maintaining adaptive and orthotic devices.
־ Keeps treatment area, equipment and supplies clean and organized; changes beds and stacks linens, as needed.
־ Independently transports the patients within the treatment area as necessary.
־ Measures patients for items such as collars and wrist supports.
־ Maintains and repairs, within limits, hand tools and other OT equipment.
־ Assists in ordering and inventory of supplies, including correspondence with the vendors and filling out requisitions.
־ Cleans and disinfects beds and equipment as required.
־ Performs clerical duties as required such as scheduling appointments, answering the phone, billing and filing, filling out insurance forms and other paperwork. Inputs data into the computer as necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two years of experience in direct patient care. Related education beyond the high school level may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
