Classification Standard

 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

The Director Pharmacy Services 1 administers, oversees, and evaluates statewide pharmacy services and program operations at the Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD). The incumbent develops and implements pharmacy policies and procedures; provides technical and operational guidance and direction; manages the delivery of pharmacy services; and ensures statewide compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS  

 

DIRECTOR PHARMACY SERVICES 1: one position class located in Central Office; plans, directs, and manages the operations of OPWDD’s statewide pharmacy services program; develops and implements policies, procedures, and objectives for pharmacy services; and oversees the activities of Pharmacists and the delivery of pharmacy services throughout the State.

          Pharmacy Services Directors plan, direct, and oversee statewide pharmacy service operations at the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision and the Office of Mental Health. 

 

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

 

Oversees and directs statewide pharmacy program operations and services.

·       Serves as a drug information consultant and resource to pharmacy and healthcare staff; provides technical guidance direction; and responds to inquiries regarding pharmacy policies, procedures, and service standards; and maintains pharmacy medication and law references.

·       Develops, implements, and revises policies and procedures based on statewide pharmacy needs; and monitors and evaluates the delivery of services to ensure compliance with laws, rules, and regulations.

·       Researches, reviews, and analyzes legislation, regulations, and policies impacting pharmacy services; and develops integrated policies and procedures consistent with agency clinical initiatives and operations, and pharmacy practice standards, laws, and regulations.

·       Analyzes prescription trends and usage levels; and conducts cost studies to develop budget estimates and projections.

·       Collaborates with State and regional office staff, healthcare providers and disciplines, and other agencies to resolve operational issues and promote the provision of evidenced-based medication treatments and services.

·       Implements pharmacy training and education programs for staff development; monitors pharmacy staff credentials; and ensure the maintenance and completion of continuing education requirements.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

           DIRECTOR PHARMACY SERVICES 1

Promotion: one year of service as a Pharmacy Supervisor.

Open Competitive: possession of a license and current registration to practice pharmacy in New York State; and five years of post-licensure experience, one year of which must have included responsibility for the administration and management of a pharmacy services program in a hospital or health care facility.
