Classification Standard

 

 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

 

          The Director Division of Investigation manages and coordinates the investigative program related to the professions licensed by the New York State Board of Regents. This one-position class exists only in the State Education Department and is in the non-competitive jurisdictional class.

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

 

           DIRECTOR DIVISION OF INVESTIGATION: responsible for the quality control and timeliness of all investigations.  This position involves substantial interaction with other governmental agencies on the federal, State and local levels; with professional associations; and the Education Departments professional State boards.

 

 

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

 

Determines investigation priorities, policies, allocation of staff, and investigative techniques to be used in case development.

 

Directs training programs.

 

Participates in the recruitment and selection of new staff.

 

Personally conducts unusually large and/or complex investigations.

 

Supervises investigators and other staff.

 

Prepares or oversees the preparation of reports. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Non-competitive:  Bachelors degree and ten years of experience conducting administrative and/or criminal investigations, writing reports on cases and presenting during administrative hearings and criminal proceedings.  Five years of this experience must have involved responsibility for managing an investigations office or unit.

 

Promotion:  one year of permanent service as a Principal Professional Conduct Investigator or two years of permanent service as a Supervising Professional Conduct Investigator.
