TRACTOR TRAILER DISPATCHER, GRADE 13

Classification Standard

 

            This class is found primarily in the Department of Correctional Services.

 

            TRACTOR TRAILER DISPATCHER supervises and dispatches Tractor Trailer Operators throughout the State:  assigns and schedules drivers and vehicles to deliver items on routes throughout the State, considering the size and type of vehicle and the size and type of load; arranges for emergency shipment of goods; adjusts delivery schedules to include unscheduled deliveries or pickup of cargo; determines when scheduled deliveries cannot be made for causes such as weather, equipment, and personnel, and notifies appropriate staff; monitors the stops, speed, and distance traveled of the drivers and counsels drivers when violations are noted; inspects equipment and schedules repairs and preventive maintenance; moves tractor trailers within the yard and may, on occasion, make short delivery trips; assists in investigating accidents and loss or damage of cargos and vehicles; investigates abuse of equipment or unsafe or improper practices and recommends or takes corrective action; and calls in drivers to cover unscheduled absences.  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  three years' experience dispatching trucks or tractor trailers and possession of a New York State Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
