Classification Standard

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

Aircraft Pilots control and navigate aircrafts to transport cargo and passengers; and conduct aerial surveillance, and search and rescue activities. These positions are classified only at the Division of State Police.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

AIRCRAFT PILOT: exempt class; reports to a State Police Staff Sergeant; operates aircrafts.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

AIRCRAFT PILOT:  operates aircraft to transport passengers, crew, and cargo, adhering to Federal Aviation Administration regulations, Division policies and procedures, and other applicable aviation rules; selects routes, altitudes, and speeds that will provide the fastest, safest, and smoothest flights;  inspects aircrafts to ensure they are in airworthy condition prior to flight; ensures the safe transport of all passengers and cargo; monitors engine operation, fuel consumption, and functioning of aircraft systems during flights; performs general maintenance and repairs on aircrafts; and completes records of flights and work performed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

          A minimum of 1,500 hours operating a commercial Rotorcraft with Instrument rating.
