Classification Standard

 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

 

The one position in this class is responsible for managing quality control programs at the Correctional Industries facilities and the Quality Control Laboratory at the Coxsackie Correctional Facility.  The incumbent provides oversight to Quality Control Supervisors at each of the Correctional Industries facilities and the staff at the Quality Control Laboratory, and is responsible for the planning of new product lines and for the manufacturing methods which lead to improvements in product quality.

 

This position is only classified at the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS).  All incumbents at DOCCS assist in the total care and confinement of inmates sentenced to the custody of the Department, and as such perform various duties and functions in conjunction with the overall operation of a facility and/or location to which they are assigned.

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

 

INDUSTRIAL QUALITY CONTROL ANALYST: full performance level; responsible for establishing and managing the Quality Control Program at Correctional Industries facilities; planning new product lines; and providing oversight to Quality Control Supervisors at facilities.

 

RELATED CLASSES

 

Industrial Superintendents plan and direct an extensive industries program at a State correctional facility, performing similar duties to those of an Assistant Industrial Superintendent, but in a larger industrial program.  Incumbents are responsible for the administration of both the business and production aspects of the industrial program, exercising supervision over all civilian and inmate employees either directly or through an Assistant Industrial Superintendent. 

 

Supervisor Correctional Industries Purchasing is a unit manager that plans, directs, and supervises a central office of contract and procurement serving the Correctional Industries Operations, coordinating all purchasing activities with the Office of General Services, the Office of the State Comptroller and the Office of the Attorney General.

 

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

 

Responsible for establishing and managing the Quality Control Program at Correctional Industries facilities and the Quality Control Laboratory.

 

 

 

 

 

Plan new product lines and manufacturing methods to improve product quality and decrease costs.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Assume responsibility for the quality control operation at the facility level, and at Industries, Central Office.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Prepare various reports for the Assistant Director of Operations and provide oversight to Quality Control Supervisors at each of the Correctional Industrial facilities. 

 

 

 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Promotion: one year of permanent competitive service as Production Control Supervisor, Quality Control Supervisor, General Industrial Training Supervisor (various parenthetics), or Assistant Industrial Superintendent.
