BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

 

          The Coordinator of Family Services is responsible for overseeing the Family Reunion and Family Visiting Programs administered by the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS).  The incumbent assists in the development and implementation of facility visiting room standards and monitors facility adherence to all related DOCCS policies and directives.  The incumbent also acts as liaison between community resources, facility administrators, and inmates’ families and advocates; and oversees family reunion activities, ensuring consistency among all Statewide Family Reunion Programs.

 

This position is classified at DOCCS Main Office.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

 

Assists in the development and implementation of facility visiting room standards for operation and monitor facility adherence.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Provides a central administrative liaison for existing and planned for facility children’s centers associated with the inmate visiting program, establishing and maintaining contact with facility staff, inmate workers, and local community volunteer’s resource people.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Oversees Family Reunion activities, especially in the context of integration with family visiting and family counseling.

 

 

 

 

 

Administers the Family Visiting Bus Program which operates from a base of operations in New York City and Albany.

 

 

 

 

 

Supervises subordinate staff.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Promotion: one year of permanent competitive service as a Supervising Offender Rehabilitation Coordinator or Supervising Offender Rehabilitation Coordinator (ASAT).
