BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

 

This position coordinates rehabilitation services provided to crime victims at the Office of Victim Services (OVS).

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

 

One-position class, supervisory level; under the direction of the Director Crime Victims Compensation Claims, supervises the Vocational Rehabilitation Unit; reviews new and existing cases filed by crime victims to determine if claimants would benefit from receiving vocational rehabilitations services; reviews and approves medical payments to crime victims; and supervises Medical Care Representatives.

 

RELATED CLASSES

 

Supervisors Rehabilitation Services are responsible for the overall development, management, supervision, and coordination of the various components within a single specific rehabilitation program area such as psychosocial support, competency training, vocational services, or residential programs. 

 

Supervisor Rehabilitation Services (Vocational) perform all the duties of a Supervisor Rehabilitation Services with a concentration on vocational rehabilitation.  Incumbents facilitate worksite assignments and individual review meetings with vocational staff; coordinate and facilitate review meetings to review the individuals admissions and progress; act as a liaison with the business office and community-based mental health agencies; and manage data related to vocational programs (referrals, admissions, transition to competitive employment).

 

Medical Care Representatives are registered professional nurses who assure the comprehensive medical rehabilitation of injured workers or persons through coordination of medical assessments, evaluations, recommendations, referrals, and payments.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

 

Review claimants treatment plans to ensure services are allowed and causally related; review requests for home modifications resulting from a disability due to crime and overseeing its implementation; review requests from claimants for high cost medical equipment (i.e. wheelchairs, beds, prosthesis, vehicle modifications, etc.); work with vendors for reasonable and customary costs of medical equipment; assist staff in interpreting medical bills and records; review medical bills, reports and claimant requests for appropriateness to injuries sustained from the crime; review requests for educational assistance for job retraining; prepare reports for executive staff and provide guidance on policies and processing of additional medical bills related to claims; manage the review and processing of home care payments; and perform the full range of supervisory duties.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Open Competitive:  a masters degree in vocational rehabilitation plus five years experience in a program dealing primarily with permanent and seriously injured clients, e.g., traumatic brain injury, quadriplegic, paraplegic, etc.

 

Promotion: one year of permanent competitive service as Medical Care Representative.
