BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

State Police Aviation Storeskeepers receive, store, and issue a large variety of mechanical parts and tools used to repair and maintain aircrafts.  This is a one-position class, existing only at the Division of State Police.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

STATE POLICE AVIATION STORESKEEPER:  one position class; manages the inventory of all New York State Police Aviation parts and supplies within the Division of State Police Aviation Unit, located at the Albany International Airport, Albany, NY.

           Motor Equipment Storeskeepers receive, store, and issue a large variety of mechanical parts and tools used to repair and maintain vehicles, heavy equipment, and machinery. 

Motor Equipment Mechanics perform skilled mechanical work to maintain, repair, and overhaul motor driven vehicles, equipment, and machinery.

           Stores Clerks 2 (Motor Equipment) order and receive parts and supplies, maintain inventories, obtain and cross-reference parts numbers, and issue parts in a stores operation that supports the repair and maintenance of vehicles, equipment, and machinery.

           Stores Clerks perform a variety of clerical and manual activities to receive, store, and issue goods, materials, equipment, and records.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

STATE POLICE AVIATION STORESKEEPER: under the general direction of an Aviation Maintenance Supervisor, plans, controls, and evaluates all inventory levels for the Aviation Unit and maintains necessary inventory of parts and supplies; ensures that all inventories are stored in an appropriate  parts room or lockers in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidelines; maintains the security of parts storage areas; orders, purchases, and secures parts from airframe manufacturers or vendors approved by the FAA; oversees and controls the shipping and receiving of all goods and services to and from the Aviation Unit, maintaining records and reconciling them with inventory; submits and tracks all warranties filed with aviation vendors and airframe manufacturers for aircraft parts, monitoring warranty compliance with FAA guidelines; prepares estimates of annual parts requirements; monitors and controls conformance with FAA regulations regarding physical inventories; resolves questions about accounts receivable; and assists in the direction of purchase orders and requisitions. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  Three years of experience with responsibility for the procurement, issuance, stocking, and inventory control of aviation and airframe equipment parts in a facility with computer control of the parts operation.
