Minimum Qualifications

On or before the date of filing your application, you must have a license and current registration, or a temporary permit, to practice radiologic technology in New York State.

In addition, for No. 20-410 Senior Radiologic Technologist, you must have had one year of post-licensure or temporary permit experience in the operation of diagnostic radiology equipment.

Requirements for Continued Employment: Possession of a license and current registration, or temporary permit, to practice radiologic technology in New York State is necessary for continued employment. Loss of licensure, registration, or temporary permit will result in removal from employment.

These positions exist statewide in the Department of Correctional Services, Department of Health, Department of State, Office of Mental Health, Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, and with the State University of New York.

Subject of Examination

There will be no written test. If you meet the Minimum Qualifications your training and experience will be evaluated against the general background/critical activities of the position. Final scores will be based solely on the information you provide on the application form, including specific procedures and/or equipment you have used. Specify all of the following you have used:

You should also indicate any experience you have had related to quality assurance assignments, including film processors, patient care, and equipment monitoring, as well as experience you have had providing supervision for subordinate staff performing radiologic technology tasks. You must include the name of the facility where the experience was gained, dates of employment, and name of the physician who immediately supervised your work.

Your final score must be 70 or higher in order to pass. Rank on the eligible list will be determined after adding any wartime veterans’ and Civil Service Law Section 85-a credits to your final passing score.

Duties

As a Radiologic Technologist, you would operate equipment taking diagnostic radiographs. You would also perform related technical duties in a radiology department, office, or clinic.

As a Senior Radiologic Technologist, you would supervise staff in a radiology department or clinic, operate a radiology mobile unit van, or have sole responsibility for the operation of radiology services at an ambulatory location or clinic. You would operate state of the art equipment and perform special radiologic procedures and may train and supervise personnel in the performance of such duties.

Therefore, the Department of Civil Service will accept applications at any time and will rate applications whenever additional eligibles are needed. In general, all applications received up to six weeks before a scheduled rating date will be processed for that test date. Applications received afterward will be retained for the next scheduled rating.

Retest Policy

Qualified candidates may file as frequently as every six months but a new application is required each time.

Continuous Recruitment/Eligible Lists

Candidates who meet the qualifications and pass this examination will have their names placed on the eligible list in the order of final scores, regardless of the date on which they filed or took the test. Generally, the names of qualified candidates will remain on the eligible list for two years. Appeal of ratings will not be allowed as the opportunity for retest exists. The Department of Civil Service reserves the right to terminate this special recruitment program.
