Appointees who work in the five boroughs of New York City or in Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland, or Westchester Counties will receive an additional $3,026 annual downstate adjustment. Appointees who work in Dutchess, Orange, or Putnam Counties will receive an additional $1,513 annual mid-Hudson adjustment.

Minimum Qualifications

On or before the date of filing your application, you must be licensed and currently registered to practice psychology in New York State. Notes

  1. You must submit a copy of your current New York State registration certificate to practice psychology with your application (Form NYS-APP). However, you do NOT need to complete pages 2 and 3 of the application (Form NYS-APP). You will instead be required to complete a job-specific questionnaire (see Subject of Examination).
  2. Qualified candidates will have their names placed on the eligible list(s) for the examination(s) for which they applied in order of final scores, regardless of the date on which they filed or took the test. The names of qualified candidates will remain on the eligible list for two years. Appeal of ratings will not be allowed as the opportunity for retest exists.
  3. You may compete in this examination once a year.
  4. Appropriate part-time and volunteer experience, which can be verified, will be accepted on a prorated basis.
  5. New York State residence is not required.
  6. A promotion examination is also being held for these positions. If you are eligible for appointment from a promotion list, you may not be appointed in your own agency from the list resulting from this examination open to the public.

These positions exist in the Addictions Treatment Centers of the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services.

Duties

As a Licensed Psychologist in the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, you would provide professional psychological services including, but not limited to, completing Emotional Behavioral Assessments and informing the appropriate clinical supervisor of any significant findings; coordinating referrals and follow-ups for facility psychiatrist; providing consultation to all treatment teams and meeting with patients as requested for psychological counseling. You will also provide consultation and peer review to other clinicians to improve their clinical performance or patient record-keeping.

Subject of Examination

There will be no written test. If, upon review of your application, you meet the "Minimum Qualifications," you will be mailed a questionnaire which you must complete and return. Your education and experience as presented in the questionnaire will be evaluated against the general background of the position. Your responses to the questionnaire will be the basis for your final score.

Your final score must be 70 or higher in order to pass. Rank on the eligible list will be determined after adding any wartime veterans' and Civil Service Law Section 85-a credits to your final passing score.
