Minimum Qualifications

On or before the date of your application, you must have a current, valid license to practice medicine in New York State AND one year of full-time post-licensure medical experience in internal medicine, family medicine, preventative medicine, emergency medicine, or surgery.

Notes

  1. Travel Requirements: Appointment to certain positions requires extensive travel within a designated area of assignment. Appointees to these positions may be required to operate a motor vehicle or otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job. If the position requires that you operate a motor vehicle, you must possess a driver's license valid in New York State at the time of appointment and continuously thereafter. Field work and travel expenses are reimbursed on a fixed schedule.
  2. Appropriate part-time and volunteer experience, which can be verified, will be accepted on a prorated basis.
  3. New York State residence is not required.

Duties

Working in a clinical setting under the general supervision of the Director of Health Services Medical Service, the Employee Health Service Physician 1 will conduct medical evaluations of New York State employees to determine their ability to perform the duties of a State job title. The results of these evaluations will be used to support a variety of personnel decisions such as: involuntary leave, hiring, reinstatements, Workers' Compensation, reasonable accommodations, or family medical leave. The incumbent will also provide preplacement medical exams, consultation services, and occupational health medical monitoring services such as exposure to asbestos, heavy metals, noise, hepatitis or TB.

Subject of Examination

There will be no written test. You will be required to complete a certification and experience questionnaire online. The online questionnaire IS YOUR TEST. The questionnaire will collect information about your certifications and experience. It will be evaluated against the general background/critical activities of the position. Your answers to the questionnaire will be the only basis for evaluating your certification and experience. Candidates will have one chance to complete the examination questionnaire. Your name will not appear on the eligible list if you fail to complete the examination questionnaire. If disqualified, you must wait until the next holding to reapply. It is essential that you describe your certification and experience as completely as possible. Ambiguity, vagueness, or omissions will not be decided in the candidate's favor. All statements concerning certification and experience are subject to verification.

Your final score must be 70 or higher in order to pass. Rank on the eligible list will be determined after adding any wartime Veterans' and Civil Service Law Section 85-a credits to your final passing score.
