Job Description
As a Medicaid Eligibility Examiner 1, you would be assigned duties related to the New York State Medicaid Program and other public health insurance programs within the Department of Health (DOH). You may be the primary contact with the general public, applicants, doctor offices, and hospitals, gathering documents and information in order to review applications for renewals of public health insurance; provide information on public health insurance eligibility; determine eligibility; collect appropriate documentation to support and maintain eligibility status; or conduct quality assurance activities. You would receive on-the-job training in eligibility determination, elementary investigative techniques, interviewing procedures and practices, and Federal, state, and local laws policies and/or procedures concerning the provisions of public health insurance programs.

Minimum Qualifications
You must meet the requirements below to qualify for this title.
Either 1. Two years of experience performing one or more of the following activities in a health care delivery system including health care facilities; federal, State, or local health care agencies; hospitals; Medicaid programs; and/or other public or private health insurance programs:
- Determining or reviewing financial eligibility for healthcare or consumer-assisted programs to ensure individuals meet eligibility criteria specified in State and/or federal laws, rules, and regulations.
- Performing quality assurance activities to ensure compliance with laws, rules, regulations, and policies.

- Performing quality assurance activities to ensure compliance with laws, rules, regulations, and policies.
Examples of non-qualifying experience include but are not limited to: Patient advocates, case managers, direct care experience, receptionist or scheduler in a physician's office or hospital, clerical and data entry duties, or as a billing clerk.
