Job Description
As a Nursing Home Activities Assistant 1, you would plan, conduct, and arrange for a variety of activities and programs for residents of New York State VeteransÂ’ Homes; coordinate with other departments and residentsÂ’ schedules; maintain documentation; arrange for refreshments and transportation; assist with setting up and cleaning up activity rooms; and encourage residentsÂ’ participation.

Minimum Qualifications
You must meet the requirements below to qualify for this title.
You must have:
Either 1. 12 semester credit hours** in therapeutic recreation, arts, crafts, dance, drama, or physical education and one year of experience in direct client care in a geriatric setting***;
Or 2. a high school or high school equivalency diploma and two years of experience in direct client care in a geriatric setting***;
Or 3. four years of experience in direct client care in a geriatric setting***.
**You must submit a list of qualifying courses with your application. You must indicate the course name, the number of semester credit hours for each course, the name of the school, and the date when the credits were earned.
***Direct client care experience includes, but is not limited to, attending to patients' personal hygiene, grooming, nutrition, and daily living needs. Examples of geriatric settings include, but are not limited to skilled nursing, assisted living, memory care, and adult day care facilities, and senior centers.
