As a Service and Repair Mechanic (Electronics), you would independently install, test, diagnose, maintain, service, repair, replace, or otherwise work on a variety of electronic systems and equipment. Depending upon the employing agency and your specific assignment, the equipment may include communications devices, computer equipment, security systems, fire alarms, and other control and indicating equipment, various sorts of lights, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, and energy management systems. Your work tasks may involve working with ladders, scaffolding, or blueprints, and using hand, power, and diagnostic tools. You may supervise and/or inspect the work of subordinate staff (which may, in a correctional facility, include inmate workers).

Minimum Qualifications
You must meet the requirements below to qualify for this title.
Four years of full-time experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment.
Substitution: an associate's degree in electronic technology, or successful completion of a two-year technical professional certification program in the electronics field may be substituted for two years of the required experience; OR graduation from a high school technical electronics education program recognized by the New York State Education Department as meeting the standards for technical education may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
