Description:
1.Cyber Security
ITS is responsible for safeguarding state government information assets and infrastructure; identifying and mitigating vulnerabilities; detecting, responding and recovering from cyber incidents; and promoting cyber awareness and education.
Internships focus on security mission areas such as:
* Enterprise Governance, Risk Management and Compliance;
* Platform and Network Security; Web Application Security;
* Cyber Command Center;
* Awareness and Training; or
* Portfolio Management.
Students placed in cyber security internships may assist with projects, activities and tasks related to the above mission areas, which may include but not be limited to:
· Performing risk management activities
· Facilitating risk and compliance assessments
· Developing security policies and standards
· Identifying and analyzing malicious code
· Vulnerability scanning
· Forensics analysis
· Incident handling
· Intrusion detection and prevention
Students may also:
· conduct research on security related topics;
· assist with the development of presentations, materials for training, or documents for distribution; and
· collect and track information.
Preferred candidates would be enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program in an accredited university with a major in Information Assurance, Information Technology, Cyber Security Management, Digital Forensics, Computer Science, or related field and possess the following skills:
* Strong analytical and problem solving skills
* Organizational skills
* Strong written and verbal communication skills

2. Application Development
Students placed in internships with an application development focus may participate in research, design, development, testing, modification, consolidation, re-engineering/modernization, and/or maintenance, of applications essential to improving services to the citizens of New York State. Many of these systems you may be familiar with from the user perspective such as:
· NYS Department of Motor Vehicle systems
· Electronic Health and Medical Record systems
· NYS Parks Operations Management system
Preferred candidates would have a concentration in Computer Science or a related field and possess the following skills:
* Strong analytical and reasoning skills
* Strong written and oral communication skills
* Knowledge of any one or more of the following:
- .NET Client programming (VB, C#)
- .NET Web programming (C#)
- Oracle Database programming (PL/SQL)
- MS SQL Server (T-SQL)
- SQL language
- HTML
- JQuery
- Java
- Javascript
- COBOL
- Mobile applications
- Technical writing
