Proposal Information

Description:

Utilities provide an essential service for our society's safety and economic prosperity that include delivery of water, natural gas, electricity, and telecommunications. Because utilities generally are monopoly providers within their respective service territories, the rates that utilities can charge to consumers is established through a legal process at the New York Public Service Commission (PSC). The New York Department of State's Division of Consumer Protection (DCP) Utility Intervention Unit (UIU) represents the interests of consumers before the PSC during these utility rate cases and during other policy-related regulatory proceedings. Additionally, the UIU serves as the statewide consumer advocate at the New York Independent System Operators (NYISO), which administers the wholesale energy market.

The UIU is seeking an intern who will work with our team in researching and analyzing technical, financial, and regulatory issues related to water, telecommunications, natural gas, and electricity that will be used to develop UIU's testimony, comments, and negotiations for the PSC proceedings.
