Proposal Information

Description:

The EODD intern, reporting to the Director and working closely with EODD investigators, will observe first-hand how EODD conducts investigations and processes applications for reasonable accommodations for both disability and religion.

The intern will have the opportunity to:

* Research, evaluate, collect and analyze information related to the Agency's responsibility to maintain a workplace that is inclusive, respectful and free from discrimination, intolerance, harassment and retaliation;

* Attend investigative interviews and interrogations related to alleged violations of the Agency's Discrimination Prevention Policy;

* Draft and review investigative reports;

* Conduct legal analyses of evidentiary data related to active investigations;

* Analyze investigative findings for legal accuracy;

* Contribute to ongoing development of internal office procedures and practices; and

* Participate in Reasonable Accommodation Committee meetings where all requests for accommodations based upon religion and religious observance/practices are reviewed.

Interns will have the opportunity to interact with Agency and department leads in the following Offices:

Division of Legal Affairs - To ensure that investigations are completed and requests for reasonable accommodations are processed, in accordance with relevant law and policy.

Bureau of Labor Relations - To ensure that investigations are completed and requests for reasonable accommodations are approved, in a fair and timely manner per union contract requirements.

Special Investigations Unit - To ensure that interrogations are conducted in accordance with OCFS policies and contractual union requirements.

Bureau of Personnel - To gather accurate and up-to-date employee data for investigative purposes and the processing of reasonable accommodations.

NYS Workforce Development Unit - To ensure that investigations are completed in accordance with NYS Law and all Governor's initiatives.
