All salary grades for trainees titles are non-statutory (NS) equated to the salary grade identified. These grade equations apply to the starting salaries in their respective salary schedule for the traineeship levels.
Job Description
Environmental Radiation Specialists review reports and evaluate data on radiological contamination in the environment; review workplans for radiological investigations; monitor programs and site remediation; develop recommendations for further action for supervisory review; prepare correspondence commenting on or conveying the approval of plans and permits; in the field, observe remedial operations; measure radiation levels; install and maintain radiation monitoring devices; collect samples of environmental media; package samples and ship to laboratories for analysis; use and maintain radiation detection instruments; select laboratory analyses for radioactive contaminants in environmental samples, exposure pathway analyses, and radiation dose projections; evaluate resulting radiological data; write reports of field work; and issue new permits, regulating the type and amount of permitted radiological emissions or releases, their impact on the environment, and the required steps to be taken to mitigate this impact.
Trainees will receive a combination of structured training, on-the-job training, and/or practical job performance to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to function at the full performance level.

You must meet the requirements below to qualify for this title.
Bachelor's or higher degree in biological science, chemistry, chemical engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering, environmental science, health physics, mathematics, mechanical engineering, nuclear engineering, nuclear medicine technology, or physical science.
Advanced Placement
If chosen, you may, at the agency's discretion, be appointed to a higher level. You must inform the agency of any additional qualifications at your interview.
